Treasury Department Sanctions North Koreans for Weapons Trade

Husband and wife both involved in ballistic missile programs.

The Department of the Treasury sanctioned two individuals from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea for procuring resources for the country’s ballistic missile program. Choe Col Min, one of the individuals sanctioned, used his position in Beijing to make weapons deals between North Korea and China. His wife Choe Un Jong, the other person sanctioned, accompanied Min on his travels to help broker the deals.

“The DPRK’s ongoing development of its ballistic missile program – even Pyongyang’s recent failed military satellite launch – continues to threaten regional and international security,” said Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian Nelson. “The United States is committed to targeting the regime’s illicit procurement networks that feed its weapons programs.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Under Secretary Nelson as he oversees the Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence in the Treasury Department.
  • For U.S. treasury officials as they impose sanctions on individuals and entities that constitute a threat to national security.
